Writing201

This is a course for people who have graduated from Writing101. Writing201 students participate in the same class as Writing101 students, but the course offers an opportunity for enhanced engagement with writing processes and practices. Students will have the ability to explore forms, style, and genres in greater detail and produce a more polished body of work.

In this course, we learn about and practice writing in many genres. The first 30-minutes of class provide an opportunity for students to read aloud their work and get feedback from peers and staff. During class, students will have regular writing exercises based in the lesson of the evening.  Writing assignments (aka groundwork) are given after the Tuesday lecture, and students are encouraged to complete and read aloud their work during the first 30-minutes of the following week’s class. Any writing submitted will be returned with feedback the following class.

By the end of the course, students will have learned the vocabulary and practices of writing for personal, creative, academic and professional purposes, helping to organize, revise and style writing with new levels of expertise.

Tuesday lectures take place on the UBC West Point Grey campus from 5:30 to 7:30 pm.
